I have previously reported on the numerous health hazards of cholesterol lowering statin drugs.  (a comprehensive report is available from this site).  Virtually all the alternative doctors, including cardiologist Dr. Stephen Sinatra, all agree statin drugs are seldom justified.  In spite of this they are prescribed and consumed more than any other drug in the world. (over 20 billion dollars in revenue for drug companies)

Board certified cardiologist Dr. Stephen Sinatra reports on a colleague, Dr. Duane Graveline (M.D.) that suffered severe TGA ( transient memory regression & cognitive decline) while on the statin drug Lipitor… for only 5 months. Fortunately it reversed when he stopped taking Lipitor.

Dr. Graveline started a website and estimates 7,500 “statin damaged”  people emailed him for help because of health damage believed due to their drug.

According to Dr. Sinatra “researchers are now saying that if you deprive the brain of cholesterol, you directly affect its ability to process data and build memory.”

Dr. Duane Graveline’s further research on the subject found problems such as  TGA, forgetfulness, disorientation and confusion.  It can make senility worse. To quote him: “the mechanism of this side effect is clearly rooted in the synthesis of cholesterol and is fundamental (for proper function of the mind)”

Here-to-for I have reported, along with many doctors and researchers, on the health hazards of muscle weakness (65% to 70%), low energy, disruption of vitamin D, testosterone, estrogens and cortisol.  These are clearly associated with the use of cholesterol lowering stain drugs.  In addition, the heart failure rate is shown to be twice as high… in multiple studies.  (due to weak heart muscle)

Half of the people who have strokes and heart disease have “normal”  (150 to 200) levels of cholesterol. Since the obstructive agent (arterial plaque) has high cholesterol content many believe lowering cholesterol is a good idea.  Dozens of studies show that the level of inflammation (which collects the cholesterol) is the problem and not cholesterol per se.

One of the major problems with those taking cholesterol lowering (statin) drugs is that of muscle weakness. This is the most common negative side effect.  Cardiologist Stephen Sinatra say that 70% of the patients that he sees on a statin drug have muscle weakness, aches and pain. Numerous studies show the depletion of CoQ-10 is the cause of this problem.

The second most common symptom (according to the International Heart Journal) is that of transient global amnesia (TGA). Their research shows that taking a statin drug is the cause… and that CoQ-10 helps this condition.  What is TGA? It is a temporary loss of memory that last up to 24 hours.  Every cell in the body needs cholesterol and CoQ-10 for proper health and function.  Depletion of CoQ-10 (removed by the statin drug) breaks the “energy chain” in the cell.  CoQ-10 is needed to “fire” the cellular energy (ATP) in every cell of the body.  All cell walls of the body also need cholesterol.
