Low fat, no meat diets are problematic for heart disease risk and fat accumulation.

Low fat diets can increase the risk of heart disease. There certainly are multiple benefits to vegetarian diets if they provide all the needed nutrients. The problem is low fat, no meat diets often are deficient in needed nutrients. These no flesh diets eliminate beneficial nutrients that are hard to get elsewhere. Supplements can help; but your body chemistry is so complex there are many unknown, unstudied factors found in whole foods.

Numerous studies make it clear that certain fatty acids and fat enzymes are important in the metabolism of fats. Factors such a exercise, protein diet, omegas, green tea are all beneficial in controlling fat accumulation. These are also good for your heart. (See the post in http://weightgainblog.info)

The earth can furnish needed electrons to satisfy hungry free radicals plus they also alter the red blood cell electrical charge, thus decreasing cardiovascular disease and hypertension.

Cardiologist, nutritionist, author and researcher, Stephen Sinatra, M.D. reports about going barefoot in his February 2010 newsletter, Heart Health & Nutrition. Far fetched as it may seem, high blood pressure and blood clotting can be related to going barefoot. In what way, you ask?

Electrical engineers tell us the earth’s surface pulsates with negatively charged, free electrons. When a person goes barefoot or sleeps on a grounded mattress, the needed electrons can flow into the circuitry of your body.

You see, free radicals are positively charged compounds that are in need of negatively charged electrons to balance their deficiency. Various free radicals from foods, toxins and environment are the ultimate cause of heart disease, in most cases.

Free radicals are unstable and they steal electrons from weaker (but normal) compounds of your body. They interfere with your biochemistry. Free radicals produce inflammation, the mother of all degenerative disease. The result of inflammation in the blood greatly increased cardiovascular disease. This increases the risk of heart attack and stroke.

When you ground the body by skin contact with the earth’s surface or by conduit from earth to body (a grounded mattress), needed electrons can flow into your body. Why is this significant? This can be a source of needed free electrons that reduce inflammation and neutralize electrical charges.

Studies involving Dr. Sinatra have revealed why grounding your body can be beneficial. In a small study, virtually all but one (who regularly grounded himself already), it was demonstrated that changes in blood viscosity (a cause of hypertension) and sticking, clumping of red blood cells was significant.

Blood samples were taken before and after a 40 minute grounding of the subject’s feet. Examination of the before and after grounding with microscopic slides clearly showed less stickiness and clumping of blood cells.

When there is increased viscosity blood pressure rises; when there is stickiness of red blood cells this correlates to increased heart attack and stroke…in addition to the inflammation from free radicals.

Exactly why increasing the electron availability and less clumping can be explained by the zeta (electrical charge on red blood cells). In one of the studies that Dr. Sinatra participated in it was found that the zeta became more favorable. It apparently was due to the surface charge changes on the red blood cells.

The microscopic examination revealed that the red blood cells did not stick together and flowed more easily, reducing hypertension and clotting tendency.
This explains why regular grounding of your body can be beneficial to cardiovascular health. It suggests grounding can reduce hypertension, heart attack and stroke because it furnishes available electrons. The previously prevailing thought was antioxidants came chiefly from compounds found in your diet…Denis Van Loan D.D.S.

Nattokinase is a soy supplement that dissolves blood clots and reduces hypertension, safely. It appears to work as well as blood thinner drugs but without bad side effects.

Nattokinase is a proteolytic enzyme that dissolves protein. The significance of this is huge for hypertension caused by thick blood. With age, the clotting matrix increases. This clot matrix is called fibrin; Nattokinase reduces it.

Increased viscosity raises blood pressure and the incidence of heart attack, stroke, as well as clots in the brain, legs and lungs. Good scientific studies prove its efficacy and safety. The biggest negative I find is taste; it is a fermented soy product.

For centuries the Japanese have eaten Nattokinase and have enjoyed reduced hypertension and the cardiovascular problems associated with it.

Some comparison studies show the Japanese as number one in worldwide life spans. Our own U.S. Census list us as 42nd in longevity, worldwide. Heart disease is the number one killer in the U.S.A. High blood pressure, atherosclerosis and cardiovascular problems are major contributors to our poor longevity record.

Mainstream medical treatment for thick blood, hypertension, is a drug like Coumadin. Coumadin likewise reduces clots but can be dangerous if not carefully regulated. It can cause internal and unstoppable bleeding. It was originally developed as a rat poison. Rats would consume it and then bleed to death.

What do scientific studies reveal about Nattokinase? The True Health Bulletin, 2010, reports a message from Michael Cutler, M.D. on Nattokinase. He cites numerous studies that clearly demonstrate the enormous benefits from Nattokinase. Here are some of them:
1. A study of 200 healthy males and females were given Nattokinase before breakfast. Upon examination of the blood plasma, it was found the supplementation with Nattokinase reduced the dissolution of blood clot time by 48%.
2. Plasmin is the natural enzyme that balances the level of fibrin in the blood. Unfortunately as you age the plasmin decreases. In a comparative test of plasmin against Nattokinase, Nattokinase was found to be 292% more effective in reducing the fibrin causing high blood pressure.

3. Patricia Kane, PhD reported a study she conducted on 25 patients taking Nattokinase. She said this: “…patients are reporting more energy, less pain, and clearing of mental confusion in the few days of use. We’ve already added Nattokinase into our protocol for detoxification of neurologic toxins.”
4. Martin Milner, M.D., professor of cardiology and pulmonary medicine in Portland, Oregon says this: “In all my years of research as a professor of cardiology and pulmonary medicine, Natto and Nattokinase represent the most exciting development in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular related problems. We’ve finally found a potent natural agent that can help thin and dissolve clots effectively, with relative safety and without side effects.”

5. Jonathan Wright, M.D. says: “The literature about Natto and Natttokinase is very impressive…the first patient I asked to try it had rapid and dramatic response…Nattokinase appears to be a true breakthrough.”

6. Ralph Holsworth, D.O. is a leading researcher on Nattokinase and is very impressed with this supplement. He says this: “I have dedicated my life to the research of Nattokinase. I’ve never seen an enzyme that has allowed me to assist my patients this significantly. Taking Nattokinase is, literally, a life changing event for them. I feel honored to have that piece of information and I just want to spread the word.”

7. Betty Kamen, PhD says this: “Because of our deep involvement in the nutritional field, my husband and I are more aware of the long list of helpful, natural, and safe modalities for recovering from illness—regardless of the disease category. Many of these substances worked well for my husband’s recent problems, but nothing seemed as magical as Nattokinase! In terms of his energy and well being, it was as though a switch was turned on when he started taking this amazing supplement. The positive effects of Nattokinase are swift and dramatic.”

In a separate report, Cardiologist, nutritionist, author and researcher, Stephen Sinatra, M.D. reports this in his June 2009 newsletter: “Thick blood contributes to the calcification of blood vessels and increases the risk of clots. Nattokinase helps prevent abnormal thickening. I have seen this supplement reduce diastolic pressure by 5-10 points. Start with 50 mg a day and increase the dose to 100 mg after a week.”

Nattokinase is easily obtained at most health food stores.

Note: I am not advising you to self medicate. You should be under the supervision of a medical doctor. It is definitely not advised when a blood thinner like aspirin or Coumadin are also taken unless very carefully monitored by your doctor…Denis Van Loan D.D.S.

Vitamin D is an enormous health builder, even proven to be helpful in low back pain that is resistant to conventional treatment. Many people are deficient in vitamin D because of lowered cholesterol and deficient sunshine.

Frank Shallenberger, M.D. reports on a back pain article, published recently in the Journal of American Board of Family Medicine. It found, quite amazingly, that low back pain which did not respond to conventional therapy, did resolve with vitamin D supplementation.

The study profiled patients with unsuccessful multiple back surgeries, pain from pregnancies, special back injections and “normal” therapy. These did not respond to conventional therapy but were successfully treated with vitamin D supplementation. Of course there has to be a deficiency of vitamin D to begin with. This is easily confirmed by laboratory tests.

Vitamin D is enormously powerful and recent study after study is proving its multiple benefits. The majority of populations are, at some time, deficient in vitamin D. The emphasis on lowering cholesterol with drugs and a lack of sunshine exposure propels this deficiency. (Vitamin D is produced naturally by ultraviolet B rays from sunshine and cholesterol under the skin.)

With the over prescribing of cholesterol lowering statin drugs and a lack of sunshine, the deficiency of vitamin D is pervasive in most populations except those in poorer countries with less medical care and more sunshine. If you haven’t already downloaded the free cholesterol & CoQ-10 report on this site ( http://naturalhealthsecrets.ws) you can discover some amazing benefits from cholesterol and CoQ-10 that are little publicized. The cardiovascular benefits as well as disease resistance are enormous…Denis Van Loan D.D.S.

Omega 3 fatty acids are powerful disease preventatives for heart, brain, eye & arthritis patients. Omega 3's are best supplied by fish oils. Dramatic reduction of all degenerative diseases is shown in many studies.

Numerous large, well conducted studies make it clear that omega 3’s are highly beneficial in prevention of degenerative diseases. I have already mentioned the dramatic absence of cardiovascular disease in the Inuit and Eskimo natives, (previous post) in spite of their heavy animal fat consumption and low vegetable consumption. Their high fish consumption provides abundant omega 3’s.

A Swedish study in 2006 demonstrated within a 6 to 12 month period of supplementation with omega 3, it produced a decline of early Alzheimer’s…believed due to the anti inflammatory activity of the omega 3’s.

Neurosurgeon Russell Blaylock in his July 2006 newsletter reports the ratio of omega 3’s to omega 6’s is crucial to the reduction of heart attack, stroke, cancer, autoimmune diseases, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Lou Gehrig’s disease. Virtually everyone in mainland USA would benefit from supplementing omega 3’s with fish oil.

The July 2008 issue of “The archives of Ophthalmology” reported on a study done at the University of Melbourne, Australia. It pooled data from 9 different studies. The pooled study involved almost 89,000 subjects and 3200 of those with AMD (age relate macular degeneration). This study demonstrated that a high intake of omega 3 (EPA) was related to a 23% reduction in the risk of early AMD. Advanced AMD was reduced by 38%.

The retina of the eye has high amounts of omega 3. Blindness or impaired vision can result from a lack of sufficient omega 3’s. The National Institute of Health (NIH) found increasing omega 3’s by only 2% decreased retinopathy by 40% to 50%.

Cold deep water tuna, herring, salmon are rich sources of omega 3’s, and associated with reduced inflammation and pain.

A double blind study found 2,600 mg daily of omega 3’s led to significant improvements in rheumatoid arthritis. As many as 13 good quality studies verify the anti-inflammatory benefits of fish oil in reducing rheumatoid arthritis symptoms of pain and dysfunction.

Dr. Robert DeMaria reports in his book “Dr Bob’s Trans Fat Survival Guide” that nerve conduction is significantly improved in a study he followed on seniors. Apparently neurotransmitters (conductors of brain and nerve messages) had improved conduction on neural pathways.

Dr. Bob should know, he is considered an expert on the subject of trans fats. The trans fats are man modified (fully hydrogen saturated) substances that become foreign objects to the body and hard to metabolize and eliminate.

Studies show that the omega 3’s , ( coming from fish oils) with their anti inflammatory power help extinguish inflammation caused by the trans fats; hence they are quite beneficial in reducing Alzheimer’s and other brain diseases…Denis Van Loan D.D.S.

Omega 3 and omega 6 levels and their significance is explained. Heart, eye, brain and most degenerative diseases are dramatically impacted by the omega's.

The omega 3’s are essential fatty acids that your body cannot produce by itself. There are 9 recognized forms but these three are the most significant and important to health:
• ALA…Alpha linolenic acid
• EPA…Eicosapentaenoic acid
• DHA…Docosahexaenoic acid

The EPA and DHA are best provided by fish oil. They are among the best cardiovascular supplements. The fish eat microalgae that contain EPA and DHA and the organs and flesh of the fish accumulate high levels of these omega 3’s.

ALA is more plant based (flax & hemp oil) and it can be converted by your body to DHA but the DHA is less efficient than directly from fish. It is interesting that a study done in 1970 on the Inuit natives of Greenland found, in spite of a high fat diet, cardiovascular disease was almost non-existent.

Further research with the Alaska Eskimos also confirms the protective power from cardiovascular disease with their high consumption of fish oils…as much as 6000 times the level of omega 3’s as non fish, non sea food consumers. Those on this native diet simply do not have cardiovascular disease.

Why are omega 3’s so healthy? Here is a list of the more dramatic benefits:
• Reduced triglycerides (large chain fatty acids that are a risk factor in cardiovascular disease)
• Balance of excess omega 6’s… extinguishing their inflammatory effect
• Help in preventing blood clots and artery plaque, reducing atherosclerosis and platelet clumping
• Reduction of C-Reactive protein and Interleukin 6…markers for inflammation in the blood (red flag dangers for heart attack & stroke)
• Reduced macular degeneration and better eye health
• Reduced cognitive decline and brain diseases
• Reduced inflammation and pain due to thromboxanes, leukotrienes and postglandins. Research in 1963 found these eicosanaids were pro-inflammatory and were produced when excess omega 6’s accumulated.

The triglycerides are long chain fatty acids generally produced by consumption of fats and are well known risk factors in cardiovascular disease.

The ideal ration of omega 3’s to omega 6’s is 1 omega 3 to 3 or 4 omega 6’s. The omega 6’s are also essential fatty acids but are generally at excessive levels in most diets. Unfortunately the ratio in America is usually 1 to 20 up to 45.

When high levels of omega 6’s are present inflammation occurs. Increases of cardiovascular disease, auto immune disease, macular degeneration, cognitive decline and general aches and pains result.

Virtually all degenerative disease is accompanied by chronic inflammation. Excess omega 6’s produce many pro-inflammatory substances if they are not neutralized early on. These include thromboxanes (increase clots & hypertension), postacyclins, leukotrienes and various pain producing postglandins.

Not surprisingly, high levels of inflammation produced by the excess omega 6’s relative to omega 3’s, are associated with increased heart attack, stroke, arthritis, brain disease (Alzheimer’s), cognitive decline, and macular degeneration…Denis Van Loan D.D.S.

The cocoa in chocolate is a health benefit in cardiovascular disease, reducing risk of death by 66% in one study. It is an antioxidant and producer of nitric oxide, both assets in reducing cardiovascular disease.

Chocolate lovers will be happy to know that chocolate is good for you, if it is not overloaded with sugar and additives.

Recent studies are demonstrating the health benefits, especially of raw, pure cocoa. This contains phytonutrients called flavenoids that are good antioxidants. What this means is they reduce inflammation plus they contain nitric oxide, a substance that dilates and relaxes arteries. These properties make cocoa a powerful asset in cardiovascular disease.

The nitric oxide dilation of arteries reduces blood pressure and improves circulation throughout your body. This greatly benefits your heart with better nutrient supply and less effort needed to pump blood.

The anti oxidant (inflammation reducing) influence of cocoa is no small matter in heart disease. Nearly all heart problems that develop come from inflammation. The accumulation of atherosclerosis (or plaque containing cholesterol and calcium ) is possible only in the presence of inflammation. Atherosclerosis is a major risk factor in cardiovascular disease, greatly increasing the incidence of heart attack and stroke.

Just how effective and beneficial is chocolate? It is very beneficial so long as it is not loaded with sugar or additives. It should be at least 60% cocoa. The sugar and additives are counter productive.

The Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden conducted an interesting study on chocolate. The patients who ate chocolate at least 2 times a week after experiencing a heart attack decreased their risk of death by 66%…as reported by alternatives Dr. Mark Stengler. A Spanish study also reported significant reduction of inflammation by consumption of chocolate.

Dr. Mark Stengler recommends raw cocoa power in various dishes even such as meat and chili ones. He stresses the importance of the raw, cold-pressed form because it has more than 3 times the anti oxidant flavenols than that made from roasted cocoa beans. High sugar content is also believed to cancel some health benefits; because we already consume too much sugar and this only fuels inflammation…Denis Van Loan D.D.S.

Vitamin C deficiency is a common factor in most degenerative diseases. In diabetes II, and coronary heart disease it is crucial.

Vitamin C deficiencies are found in diabetes, heart disease and most degenerative diseases. Cardiologist Thomas Levy, who wrote a comprehensive book on vitamin C, says this in his Stop America’s # 1 Killer: “Vitamin C is very similar in chemical structure to glucose, helping to explain why insulin aids the cellular uptake of both glucose and vitamin C.”

Vitamin C deficiency is well known as the chief factor in scurvy. It turns out it is very important in diabetes and coronary heart disease. In the case of diabetes, insulin helps the transport of vitamin C into the cell and insulin also is essential for the metabolism of glucose…the raw material for energy. The heart, according to cardiologist Stephen Sinatra, needs at least 4 to 5 times the energy of any other organ. Some would say it needs ten times the amount.

Another reason for needed vitamin C is the collagen factor, the breakdown of which causes scurvy. Muscle, especially the heart, needs healthy collagen for partitions, valves and blood vessel walls. It is the fiber throughout the body that is called “connective tissue”. Not surprisingly with the breakdown of fiber in the blood vessels, weak arteries are more succeptible to ruptures causing aneurysms, or blow outs that result in stroke or heart attack.

Bear in mind, there is a lot of junk science out there about vitamins. Vitamin C reporting is no exception. Not only is vitamin C valuable in energy metabolism and collagen fiber formation but also as an antioxidant. Numerous studies show its enhanced immunity and defense against disease. It reduces inflammation by neutralizing free radicals and enhancing the white blood cells (the major assault army against disease). Inflammation is THE major factor in heart disease and diabetes.

Not all vitamin C is the same and natural sources, (fruits & vegetables) should be included with supplements. (Human bodies normally do not manufacture the essential vitamin C and is obtained from your food or supplement supply.) There are several forms of vitamin C and the full benefit and assimilation come with the aid of other nutrients found in the diet. There are many phytonutrients, enzymes and minerals whose comprehensive function is not known in the body. Supplements alone are seldom the answer, whole food is needed…Denis Van Loan D.D.S.
